U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1 Million to Help Grow Western New York State Agri-Business Cluster

WASHINGTON - Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank today announced a $1 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Genesee Gateway Local Development Corporation of Batavia, New York, to make infrastructure improvements needed to expand the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park. The project is expected to create 186 new jobs, according to grantee estimates.

"This $1 million Economic Development Administration investment is an example of the Obama administration's commitment to supporting the growth of regional business clusters to create jobs," said Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank. "The grant announced today will help the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park expand and attract other food-processing companies to western New York State to create new jobs in the region's vital and growing agri-business sector."

The EDA grant funds infrastructure upgrades needed to expand the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park so that they can accommodate the growing needs of new and current business tenants, which include a mushroom farm and shipping facility, a yogurt plant, and other food-related businesses. Upgrades funded by EDA include wellhead connections to an aquifer, new water mains, the design and construction of a new access road, and related engineering and construction services.
