WASHINGTON - U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced a $1.5 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the State of New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development to help repair and upgrade wireless telecommunications infrastructure in four underserved areas of the state and to create a Web-based business information intake system for gathering critical information in times of natural or other disasters.
"The Obama Administration is committed to creating jobs, encouraging innovation and improving our nation's economic competitiveness," Locke said. "This grant will help New Hampshire fill gaps in wireless telecommunications coverage to encourage business growth, job creation and private investment in rural areas, improving the state's ability to respond to business needs in the event of natural disasters."
The Department of Commerce is a voice for Main Street businesses. It focuses on creating jobs by fostering innovation and opening markets to U.S. products.
