U.S. Department of Commerce Invests to Support Workforce Development at the Midwest Energy Research Consortium of Milwaukee, Wisconsin

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding $835,592 to the Midwest Energy Research Consortium (M-WERC) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to support the expansion of workforce development training services offered by the organization. The grant, to be matched with $835,592 in local investment, is expected to create 250 jobs.

“President Trump is committed to increasing opportunities for American workers,” said U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Dr. John Fleming. “This project will purchase equipment for the M-WERC Energy Innovation Development and Training Facility in Milwaukee, which provides critical workforce development training in support of the region's significant energy, power, and controls sector.”

It is estimated that at least 250 project trainees will be hired by Milwaukee firms in the three years following project completion. The trained labor pool provided by the project will also help attract new companies to the 80-plus acres of shovel-ready sites in the 30th Street Corridor Century City Business Park, assisting in the community revitalization and economic development of that distressed area of the city.
