Matthew Giannini
Area Director
Matthew Giannini is the Area Director for the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration’s Austin Regional Office, a position he has held since May 2013. He leads staff, program delivery, and EDA’s economic development mission across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. As the senior on-site official, he provides strategic and operational leadership and is also currently the Acting Regional Director.
Matthew joined EDA in 2009 as Regional Engineer and later served as Regional Environmental Officer before becoming Area Director. His EDA experience includes project development, construction, environmental requirements, financial analysis, contract negotiations, and administration of economic development investments. His recognitions include the U.S. Department of Commerce Gold Medal Honor Award for developing a computer program that improved efficiency and generated taxpayer savings. Before EDA, Matthew worked as an Analyst with Kimley-Horn and Associates in the real estate development sector.
Matthew’s community leadership includes serving as President of Town & Country Baseball for the 2023–2026 term, a nonprofit youth baseball organization serving 600 players each season. A U.S. Army veteran and licensed professional engineer, Matthew holds a B.S. in civil engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from The University of Texas at San Antonio. He has also completed Level I of the CFA Program.
