The Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (APM) Tech Hub rebuilds and expands the capacity to make essential medicines in the United States. Led by the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing on behalf of the Alliance for Building Better Medicine, the Hub brings together public, private, academic, and community partners to strengthen the country’s ability to produce critical generic drugs.
For decades, much of the manufacturing know-how, equipment, and supply chain for critical medicines moved overseas. This has caused persistent shortages, slowed access to care, and reduced the nation’s ability to respond quickly when care demands change. The APM Tech Hub addresses these challenges by advancing new manufacturing technologies, expanding domestic capabilities, and building an end‑to‑end system that supports U.S. production of key starting materials, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and finished medicines.
EDA intends to award this Tech Hub grant funding of approximately $16 million to:
- Accelerate finished dose drug product development and regulatory approval;
- Scale U.S.-Based Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing;
- Develop AI tools for supply‑chain sourcing and process optimization to eliminate dependency on foreign Key Starting Materials (KSMs); and
- Integrate a fully domestic end-to-end drug manufacturing pathway.
