The Kansas City BioSecure Manufacturing Tech Hub seeks to position eastern Kansas and western Missouri as a global leader in advanced biomanufacturing by expanding U.S. production capacity and deploying innovative technologies to produce next-generation medications. Building on the region’s strong bioservices and biomanufacturing base, the Hub will modernize manufacturing processes, strengthen and retool domestic supply chains, and accelerate the translation of biologic discoveries into scalable, resilient, and agile U.S. production.
EDA intends to award this Tech Hub grant funding of approximately $34 million to:
- Construct and operate a technology maturation center that accelerates FDA approval and industry adoption of more efficient and advanced biologic production processes and technologies grounded in current good manufacturing practices (cGMP);
- Launch a collaborative network of Contract Research Organizations and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations that are backed by an Independent Site Qualification, and serve as a collective American counterweight to global bioservices behemoths;
- Offer critical supply chain retooling assistance and financing so American manufacturers can supply the domestic biomanufacturing sector; and
- Expand biomanufacturing and bioprocessing training access and credential adoption to align the regional workforce with employer needs and efficiently place graduates in high-demand career opportunities.
