Minnesota MedTech Hub 3.0 (MMT3.0), led by the Minneapolis Saint Paul Economic Development Partnership, aims to position Minnesota as a global center for “Smart MedTech” by integrating artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data science into medical technology. This Tech Hub will leverage its medical technology ecosystem and concentration of hospitals, research institutions, and medical device manufacturers to develop a shared operating protocol for medical data, allowing for regional information-sharing and innovative collaboration.

MMT3.0 seeks to unite unique assets across the MedTech value chain, providing unparalleled access to healthcare data and expertise, attracting essential capital to innovators, supporting entrepreneurs through each stage of the innovation process, and developing the diverse workforce necessary to support growth.

This consortium’s proposal includes plans to:

  • Interconnect data from nation’s leading provider, payor, and medical device companies by extending the HIPAA-compliant data networks;
  • Support entrepreneurs throughout their innovation journey to include more innovators and consolidate regional assets in medical tech, healthcare, and AI;
  • Increase capital availability and advance equity by removing barriers for entrepreneurs;
  • Remove barriers to contribution for current and prospective workers through an employer-led, worker-centered, equity-driven strategy to address the talent gaps in healthcare and medical technology; and
  • Establish Smart MedTech HQ to accelerate innovation across the Hub region through transforming partnerships into powerhouse coalitions by providing clear, accessible on-ramps for all who can contribute.

To ensure that the impacts of the Tech Hub projects benefit the entire region, the consortium is committed to systematically prioritizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to build a more equitable economy.
