The EDA Center at the University of Minnesota is a source of statewide economic development information, applied research, and education that enhances the effectiveness of economic development strategies at local, regional, and tribal levels. The Center is a collaboration between the University of Minnesota Crookston and the University of Minnesota Extension Center for Community Vitality. Since Extension staff is located across the state, the EDA Center is connected to various local economies. This allows the Center to provide resources and referrals to all University of Minnesota units, including the Bureau of Business and Economic Research on Duluth’s campus, the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, and the Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship (the latter two both located on the Twin Cities campus). Affiliated faculty and specialists will bring University resources to community leaders and economic development partners so they can: 1) consider the economic contributions and impacts of industries and economic events; 2) create an equitable business climate that supports entrepreneurs, business development, and expansion; and 3) address community factors that attract, retain, develop, and retain a diverse workforce in rural areas.
