EDA announced one investment from October 1-5, totaling $621,000, which is matched by $155,250 in local investment. This Economic Adjustment Assistance project will help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base as follows:

  • $621,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project, matched by $155,250 in local investment, as follows:
    • $621,000 in Assistance to Coal Communities, matched by $155,250 in local investment, to the Northwest New Mexico Council of Governments, Gallup/McKinley County, New Mexico, to support the Northwest New Mexico Council of Government (COG) with establishing the Supercharging Diversification, Equity, and Resiliency in Northwest New Mexico project, to help strengthen diversification efforts based on the principles of equitable impact and a framework of resiliency in Gallup, New Mexico.  The New Mexico COG serves the three northwestern counties of San Juan, McKinley, and Cibola and this project will support additional planning for economic development implementation, continued local and tribal economic development organization assistance, and guidance on management capacity to lead these regions.  Once completed, the project will help enhance future economic sustainability and advance economic resiliency in an area that has been impacted by the decline in the coal industry.
