U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2 Million for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements to Support Industrial Business Growth in Carrollton, Kentucky
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to the city of Carrollton, Kentucky, for wastewater infrastructure improvements needed to support local business growth and job creation.
This grant will expand the existing regional wastewater treatment plant to boost its capacity to support a steel tube manufacturing facility, a local power plant, and other business needs. This EDA investment will be matched with $6.6 million in local funds, and is expected to create or retain more than 300 jobs, and generate $1.2 billion in private investment, according to grantee estimates.
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda is jumpstarting our middle class by building out critical infrastructure and supporting manufacturing here at home, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs across Kentucky and the entire country,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment in Kentucky’s infrastructure will support local business growth, create even more jobs, and improve economic resilience in Carrollton.”
“The Economic Development Administration works hand-in-hand with local communities to support their bottom-up, middle-out economic development strategies,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This strategic, place-based project in Kentucky will provide the infrastructure needed to accommodate a major manufacturing facility and attract additional companies to the area as well as creating a stronger, more diverse regional economy for the future.”
“An investment in our local communities is an investment in our people, and this $2 million will help enhance Carrollton’s local infrastructure so that this community can continue to attract new jobs and investments for Kentuckians living there,” said Governor Andy Beshear. “We are committed to building a better Kentucky for all of our people, and this support is helping fuel our efforts.”
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Northern Kentucky Area Development District (NKADD). EDA funds NKADD to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
