Biden-Harris Administration Launches First Tech Hubs Funding Opportunity

WASHINGTON, DC — The Biden-Harris administration, through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), today launched the Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs (Tech Hubs) competition. This program will create tech hubs in regions across the country by bringing together industry, higher education institutions, state and local governments, economic development organizations, and labor and workforce partners to supercharge ecosystems of innovation for technologies that are essential to our economic and national security. The program was authorized by the CHIPS and Science Act and is a key part of President Joe Biden’s Investing in America agenda, stimulating private sector investment, creating good-paying jobs, revitalizing American manufacturing, and ensuring no community is left behind by America’s economic progress.

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $3.7 million grant to the city of Winona, Mississippi, for the installation of a 250,000-gallon water tank, creating economic resiliency while facilitating job creation and retention. The EDA grant, to be matched with $1.2 million in other federal, state, and local investment, is expected to create 15 jobs and generate $8 million in private investment.

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.4 Million to Protect Businesses and Residents from Flooding in Benson, Minnesota

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.4 million grant to the city of Benson, Minnesota, to build an enclosed flood protection system for the city’s wastewater treatment plant and replace wastewater pipes to a local industrial park to protect businesses and residents during flooding events. The EDA grant, to be matched with $353,421 in local investment, is expected to create 20 jobs, retain 58 jobs, and spur $60 million in private investment.
