Tribal Community Support

President Joseph R. Biden Jr. signed the Presidential Memorandum on Tribal Consultation and Strengthening Nation to Nation Relationships. It directs federal agencies to work with Tribal Nations for the implementation of Executive Order 13175, Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments (November 6, 2000).

2024 Tribal Consultation

The Economic Development Administration (EDA) is committed to strengthening Tribal sovereignty and self-governance and will be hosting a Tribal Consultation on July 10, 2024 (PDF). EDA frequently works with Tribal Nations to help advance their vision for economic opportunity and seeks input on a waiver and revised forms. We are hosting this consultation to fulfill federal trust responsibilities and treaty obligations to Tribal Nations, the cornerstones of government-to-government policymaking. These consultations are also conducted in furtherance of Executive Order 13175, Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments (November 6, 2000) and Presidential Memorandum on Tribal Consultation and Strengthening Nation-to-Nation Relationships.

2023 Tribal Consultation

EDA held a Tribal Consultation on Thursday March 9, 2023, seeking input regarding the design and implementation of new programs authorized as part of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022: the Regional Technology and Innovation Hub Program (Tech Hubs) and the Distressed Area Recompete Pilot Program (Recompete Pilot Program) as well as input on Disaster Supplemental Funding.

EDA also sought specific consultation on an issue in the Recompete Pilot Program where the statutorily required dataset for Tribes does not exist and how to equitably account for Tribal populations in light of that constraint.

The Dear Tribal Leader Letter for this event can be found in the “Resources” section below, along with presentation slides and a recording from the event. The period for submitting comments has now closed and all feedback is under consideration. EDA sincerely thanks all those who participated.

On April 16, 2021 and April 19, 2021 EDA held Tribal Consultations regarding a proposed regulatory change to expand Tribal eligibility to include for-profit Tribal entities that are wholly owned by and established for the benefit of the Tribe. Recordings of these sessions can be found in the “Resources” section below. The period for submitting comments has now closed and all feedback is under consideration.
