U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2.5 Million to Boost Commercial and Industrial Development in Long Prairie

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.5 million grant to the city of Long Prairie, Minnesota, to make critical water infrastructure improvements needed to support the expansion plans of local businesses and support future industrial growth. According to the grantee, the investment is expected to create more than 80 new jobs, save 526 jobs, and generate nearly $11 million in private investment.
“EDA is committed to working hand-in-hand with local economic development partners to advance locally-developed projects that are linked to the region’s long term, sustainable economic development strategy,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Tom Guevara. “The EDA grant announced today will boost the capacity of Long Prairie’s water infrastructure to meet the demands of the region’s business community.”
The EDA investment supports Long Prairie’s effort to expand their existing wastewater treatment facility. The existing wastewater treatment facility is at capacity and the improved infrastructure will allow for further commercial and industrial growth in the community.
