Privacy Act Overview: The Privacy Act can generally be characterized as an omnibus “code of fair information practices” that attempts to regulate the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of personal information by federal executive branch agencies. View the Privacy Act implementation rules and Department of Commerce and government-wide policies on privacy.

If you would like to request information covered by the Privacy Act, you may follow the instructions to submit a request.

Privacy Laws, Policies and Guidance: In addition to the Privacy Act, there are additional laws, policies and guidance materials that protect privacy. View descriptions of such materials.
