U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.5 Million to Build Innovation Lab and Tech-Training Center in New Orleans

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur L. Ross, Jr., today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.5 million grant to the Ochsner Clinic Foundation of New Orleans, Louisiana, to help build the Ochsner Center for Innovation in the Jefferson Highway Economic District. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 155 jobs, retain 135 jobs, and generate nearly $4 million in private investment.

“The Trump Administration is committed to not only retaining jobs in this country, but also to taking action that creates new opportunities for Americans,” said Secretary Ross. “I look forward to seeing how the new Ochsner Center for Innovation will work to support local entrepreneurs.”

The project will include the construction of an approximately 8,020 square foot building on land currently owned and operated by Ochsner Clinic Foundation. The one-of-a-kind facility will include a prototype lab and workshop, collaborative workspace for health innovators, and state-of-the-art conference and training space for job training and business assistance programs.
