U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1 Million to Make Water Infrastructure Improvements Needed to Support Manufacturing in Decherd

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1 million grant to Decherd, Tennessee, to improve the city’s existing water treatment plant to better accommodate manufacturing and other business needs. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 50 jobs, and generate $115 million in private investment.
“The Trump Administration is committed to accelerating economic growth and developing American infrastructure,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “I look forward to seeing how Decherd’s upgraded water treatment plant will support the growth of local businesses.”
The water system improvements will support the expansion of a major vehicle manufacturer and other local businesses. The scope of work includes the conversion of existing treatment basins to a biological nutrient removal process, installation of filtration equipment, and an increase to the hydraulic capacity of the plant.
