U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2.6 Million for Critical Infrastructure to Support Manufacturing in Greenwood

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.6 million grant to Greenwood Metro District, of Greenwood, South Carolina, to provide water and sewer infrastructure to serve a new foreign-owned carbon fiber manufacturing facility. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 220 jobs, and generate $600 million in private investment.
“The Trump Administration is committed to accelerating economic growth and developing American infrastructure,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “I look forward to seeing how the Greenwood Metro District’s improved water system will help promote the growth of local businesses.”
The project will help the region rebound from the devastating floods of October, 2015 by strengthening and enhancing the region’s existing automotive and aerospace clusters, which depend on carbon fiber products.
