U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1 Million to Help Bring Major Foreign-owned Manufacturing Firm to Commerce

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1 million grant to the city of Commerce, Georgia, to make critical infrastructure improvements needed to accommodate an internationally-owned agri-food processing company and other businesses at the Banks Crossing Business Park. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 49 jobs and spur $28 million in private investment.
“I commend the local efforts which attracted a French-owned food processing company to Commerce’s Banks Crossing Business Park,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “The improved location will bring substantial foreign direct investment and quality manufacturing employment to the region as well as help attract other new businesses to Commerce.”
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission. EDA helps fund the commission to bring together the public and private sections to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
