U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $526,000 to Support Wood Products Companies in the Northern Forest Region


WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $526,000 grant to Northern Forest Center, Inc., of Concord, New Hampshire, to help strengthen the economy of the Northern Forest Region of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York by providing technical assistance to wood product companies and related businesses in the region. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to help create or retain 400 jobs and generate $1.625 million in private investment.

“We commend the Northern Forest Center, Inc. for working to increase the competitiveness of wood products businesses in the Northern Forest Region,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “I look forward to seeing how this critical technical assistance will help grow the wood products sector, which is vital to the region’s economy.”

The technical assistance provided by this project will help to strengthen the economy of the Northern Forest Region by providing technical assistance to wood products companies; developing market demand in the wood heat industry through marketing and business technical assistance; and fostering growth in the destination tourism industry by providing specialized technical assistance in marketing, product development and business innovation.
