U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $875,000 to Bolster Aerospace and Defense Cluster in Los Angeles

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding an $875,000 grant to the University of Southern California of Los Angeles, California, for the performance of market and industry research and analysis in support of the development of a regional Aerospace and Defense cluster with an emphasis on advanced manufacturing.

“We commend the University of Southern California for working to spur economic opportunities in the Southern California region through research and evaluation,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “The completion of this project will provide local decision makers with useful information to support sound economic development planning for the region.”

Project work activities include examination of attracting business firms and activity to the March Joint Powers Authority locations, assessment of economic opportunities at general aviation airports, and completion of a market analysis of the unmanned aerial systems. The project will support higher skills, higher wages, and employment opportunities for the region’s workforce.
