U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.4 Million to Improve the North Industrial Park in Hillsboro

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.4 million grant to the city of Hillsboro, Texas, to make water infrastructure improvements to serve the North Industrial Park. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 240 jobs, retain 265 jobs, and generate $100 million in private investment.

“President Trump has made clear the need to drastically improve infrastructure across the United States,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “Through this project, the City of Hillsboro will not only significantly improve its capacity to retain and recruit businesses but also will create jobs for hundreds of residents.”

The project addresses water pressure and volume deficiencies that impact the North Industrial Park's ability to maintain existing businesses and attract future employers. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Heart of Texas Council of Governments (HOTCOG). EDA funds HOTCOG to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.
