U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $827,580 to Support Manufacturing in North Carolina

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $827,580 grant to the Town of Black Mountain, North Carolina, to make water system improvements needed to serve businesses locating in the Black Mountain Commerce Park, including a fast-growing life sciences manufacturing firm. The project is expected to generate $25.4 million in private investment and create or save 600 jobs.
“We commend the Town of Black Mountain for their strategy of supporting the business community by providing critical infrastructure improvements,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “This project will set the conditions needed to help a major local employer expand operations and support future development at the Commerce Park.”
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Land of Sky Regional Council. EDA funds the Land of Sky Regional Council to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support capital investment and create jobs.
