U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $615,673 to Make Water Infrastructure Improvements Needed to Support Businesses Development in Gothenburg, Nebraska

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $615,673 grant to the city of Gothenburg, Nebraska, to make critical water infrastructure improvements needed to support current business needs and future economic growth. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 20 jobs, retain 73 jobs and generate $675,000 in private investment.
“We commend the city of Gothenburg on their locally led efforts to provide the infrastructure modern businesses require,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “This project will make existing businesses more competitive and will help to attract new private investment to the region.”
The new water distribution and sanitary sewer system will provide service to an existing industrial area that currently has limited water service. In addition to serving future businesses, the improved water infrastructure will support the expansion of existing employers in the region. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the West Central Economic Development District. EDA funds the West Central Economic Development District to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.
