Throughout its more than 50-year history, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has invested in coal and energy communities across the United States through a variety of funding opportunities. One of EDA’s seven Investment Priorities, Recovery & Resilience, is one way in which EDA remains focused on communities that are looking to recover from economic shocks, such as power plant closures or the decline of a major industry in the region, and to build resilient and diverse economies.

EDA is now accepting applications for its $50 million Build to Scale (B2S) program to support projects that strengthen equitable ecosystems and increase access to capital for innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups. The program strengthens regional economies by supporting scalable startups, as well as helps communities and regions grow technology-driven businesses; create high-skill, high-wage jobs; and build the industries of the future.

EDA Conducts Tribal Economic Development Workshop at NADO 2023

In April, economic development experts from across the country gathered in Denver, Colorado, for the 2023 National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) economic summit. The three-day event included presentations from Governor Jared Polis and Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Castillo. It offered attendees a series of specific workshops, including one for Indigenous communities.

U.S. Department of Commerce Designates First Economic Development District in Puerto Rico

Biden-Harris Administration Launches First Tech Hubs Funding Opportunity

WASHINGTON, DC — The Biden-Harris administration, through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), today launched the Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs (Tech Hubs) competition. This program will create tech hubs in regions across the country by bringing together industry, higher education institutions, state and local governments, economic development organizations, and labor and workforce partners to supercharge ecosystems of innovation for technologies that are essential to our economic and national security. The program was authorized by the CHIPS and Science Act and is a key part of President Joe Biden’s Investing in America agenda, stimulating private sector investment, creating good-paying jobs, revitalizing American manufacturing, and ensuring no community is left behind by America’s economic progress.

Global Delegation to Visit Greater Seattle Region for Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE)

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), in coordination with the U.S. Department of State and the Organization of American States (OAS), announced that 50-60 senior-level government, business, policy and economic leaders from 22 countries will participate in the 16th Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE) in the greater Seattle, Washington, region May 14-19, 2023. ACE is the premier economic development, innovation, and entrepreneurial network of the Americas and is one of the leading high-level events of the OAS that is coordinated with the federal government via the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
