U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $150,000 to Create Jobs, Strengthen Economy in the Lafayette, Louisiana Region

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced a $150,000 grant to the Evangeline Economic Development District, d.b.a. The Acadiana Regional Development District, of Lafayette, La., to continue economic development planning activities and to provide disaster related assistance to the communities in its service area.

"The Economic Development Administration is pleased to partner with the Evangeline Economic Development District to improve the regional economic climate," said Sandra R. Walters, EDA Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer. "This EDA grant will continue the District's economic development planning program and provides supplemental funding to assist communities and businesses as they strive to recover economically from the disruption cause by the recent hurricanes in the region."

EDA supports the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States. Its mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness and preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
