U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $54,739 to Create Jobs, Strengthen Economy in La Conner, Washington Region

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced a $54,739 grant to the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community of La Conner, Wash., to develop and implement a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the Swinomish Indian Reservation and Skagit County.

"The Economic Development Administration is pleased to partner with the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community to improve the regional economic climate," said Sandra R. Walters, EDA Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer. "This EDA grant will help develop a locally-devised blueprint for identifying economic development activities that will encourage private investment, boost entrepreneurial growth, and create jobs."

EDA is an agency within the U.S. Commerce Department and supports the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States. Its mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness and preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
