U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke Announces $616,441 Recovery Act Grant to Create Jobs, Boost Development in Milledgeville, Illinois

WASHINGTON - U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced a $616,441 Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Village of Milledgeville, Ill., to help build roadways and sewer service for a new industrial park. The project, made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), is expected to create additional jobs and generate private investment in the region.
"The Obama Administration is committed to creating jobs, encouraging innovation and improving our nation's economic competitiveness," Locke said. "This grant will help create new jobs and boost private investment by building the infrastructure needed to serve a new industrial park."
The Recovery Act was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009. It is providing immediate relief for American families and jump-starting billions of dollars in new projects that are creating jobs, improving infrastructure and strengthening local economies.
"A new industrial park will enhance Milledgeville's ability to attract new industry and foster economic expansion," U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said. "Today's Recovery Act funding will accelerate the project while creating good paying jobs within the community."
"Milledgeville is demonstrating innovative approaches to regional economic and community development," U.S. Sen. Roland Burris said. "Projects like these show how engaged local leadership can provide its citizens with the best chance at leveraging federal and state dollars, and the progress that can be made when we all work together."
