U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke Announces $2.083 Million Grant to Create Jobs, Strengthen Economy in Pooler, Georgia

EDA Grant Expected to Create 500 Jobs and Generate $325 Million in Private Investment

WASHINGTON - U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced a $2.083 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Georgia Department of Economic Development and Georgia Ports Authority in Savannah, Ga., to provide rail service to serve the Chatham County Economic Development site in Pooler. The project is expected to create 500 jobs and generate $325 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

"The Obama Administration is committed to creating jobs, encouraging innovation and improving our nation's economic competitiveness," Locke said. "This investment will help build the critical rail infrastructure needed to serve an energy-related company."
