Commerce Department Continues Effort to Strengthen Louisiana Economy with Key Investments to Spur Economic Growth

WASHINGTON - U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced $1.08 million in Economic Development Administration (EDA) grants to boost economic development planning efforts in Louisiana.

"The Obama Administration is committed to creating jobs, encouraging innovation and improving our nation's economic competitiveness," Locke said.  "Today's grants will advance regional competitiveness by working to spur innovation and entrepreneurship, creating higher-skill, living-wage jobs, and promoting industry clusters in Louisiana."

The investments announced today include:

- $180,000 to the North Delta Regional Planning Development District of Monroe to implement a comprehensive economic development planning program.

- $180,000 to the South Central Planning and Development Commission of Houma to implement a comprehensive economic development planning program.

- $180,000 grant to the Imperial Calcasieu Regional Planning and Development Commission of Lake Charles to implement a comprehensive economic development planning program.

- $180,000 grant to the Capital Region Planning Commission of Baton Rouge to implement a comprehensive economic development planning program.

- $180,000 grant to the Acadiana Regional Development District of Lafayette to implement a comprehensive economic development planning program.

- $180,000 grant to the Kisatchie-Delta Regional Planning & Development District, Inc., of Alexandria to implement a comprehensive economic development planning program.
