$3 Million U.S. Commerce Department Investment to Foster Business Growth in Quincy, Washington's Technology Industry

WASHINGTON - Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank today announced a $3 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the city of Quincy, Wash., to help build a reverse osmosis treatment plant and related infrastructure that will support the region's data processing industry.

"Improving regional infrastructure in support of business growth is critical to our ability to create jobs and remain competitive," Blank said. "This EDA grant will strengthen the competitiveness of Quincy's emerging technology cluster and foster business development by helping to increase the city's water capacity to better serve the local community."

The reverse osmosis treatment plant will collect and treat domestic and industrial wastewater - primarily from agribusiness processers - to cool local computer data centers that produce great amounts of heat. The increased capacity is also expected to benefit food processing and shipping businesses in the region. EDA's support for the project provides an opportunity for economic diversification and much needed growth in this emerging technology cluster.

Putting Americans back to work is President Obama's top priority. His American Jobs Act would put more money in the pockets of American families and do so without adding a dime to the deficit. In Washington, 150,000 firms would receive a payroll tax cut under the American Jobs Act, and a typical household in Washington, with a median income of around $60,000, would receive a tax cut of around $1,860.
