U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2.2 Million to Expand Critical Infrastructure in South Sioux City, Nebraska

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding roughly $2.23 million to upgrade critical infrastructure in South Sioux City, Nebraska. According to the grantee, the project will help to facilitate business expansions and accommodate future growth to create 106 new jobs and spur $283 million in private investment.

“The Obama Administration is committed to improving our nation’s infrastructure, which is crucial for both creating jobs and remaining competitive in today’s global economy,” said Secretary Pritzker. “The EDA investment announced today will help South Sioux City upgrade critical infrastructure systems necessary to both grow local business and attract new investment to the region.”

In 2009, EDA invested $2 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding in the city of South Sioux City to help support infrastructure development in the Roth Industrial Park, which serves agriculture-related manufacturing firms. Demand at the park has increased, and the existing infrastructure can no longer meet the demand, inhibiting the city’s ability to attract new investment. The EDA grant will support the construction of upgraded sewer and water systems that will enable businesses in the area to expand operations. Additionally, the grantee believes that this project will draw new industries to the region.
