U.S. Commerce Department Invests $1.5 Million to Support Manufacturing in Northwest Ohio

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced today that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.5 million grant to the Village of Carey, Ohio, to support local manufacturing firms by upgrading the city’s electrical system. According to the grantee, the investment will create 50 jobs and generate $18 million in private investment.

“The Obama Administration and the Commerce Department are committed to strengthening American manufacturing, which supports high-paying, good quality jobs and contributes to our economic recovery,” said Secretary Pritzker. “The EDA investment announced today supports a project that will enable local manufacturers to grow their operations and help create jobs in Carey, Ohio.”

According to the grantee, the Village of Carey's current electrical system substations are at capacity and incapable of providing reliable power to local manufacturers as they were originally intended for residential use. The EDA investment will support construction of a new substation that is dedicated to providing reliable electric power to area manufacturers. The increased capacity will ensure that the region has adequate electrical capacity to support future industrial expansion.
